Whether you’re a seasoned urban explorer or just a fan of forgotten history, there’s something uniquely haunting about a massive estate frozen in time. Today, I’m taking you back to early 2019, when we managed to step inside a Surrey gem known as Ravenmorrow.
The History: A Grand Estate in Limbo
Located in a prestigious housing estate southwest of London, Ravenmorrow is a bit of a mystery. Documentation on the property is surprisingly thin, but we do know it was officially abandoned in 2013.
Interestingly, demolition was given the green light back in 2017. Yet, years later, the house still stands—a silent, 16-bedroom giant waiting for a fate that hasn’t quite arrived.
The Explore: Dodge, Drop, and Roll
After seeing a close friend visit, the FOMO was real. He kindly shared the coordinates, and we were out the door that same day, grinning from ear to ear and ready to soak in that classic 1950s architecture.
The Mission:
• The Approach: This isn’t your average neighborhood. The estate has its own private security force, so we played it safe. We parked miles away and hiked 45 minutes to the property to avoid drawing any eyes to a parked car.
• The Close Call: Security is no joke here. In the two hours we spent inside, a patrol vehicle drove up and checked the perimeter at least three times. Luckily, we stayed out of sight and let him pass—call it “stealth mode” engaged! 🤪
• The Vibe: Once inside, it was a dream. Navigating a 16-bedroom home that feels like a time capsule is an incredible experience. Despite the nearby patrols, it was a remarkably chilled and enjoyable explore.
The Lockdown
Timing is everything in the world of Urbex. Shortly after our visit, the “tour bus” effectively arrived. Ravenmorrow has since been sealed tight and is now under a 24/7 security watch.
If you were thinking of heading there now, you’d be met with:
1. Live CCTV operating inside and out.
2. Dalek-style motion sensors scattered across the grounds.
3. Frequent, rigorous security sweeps.
We feel incredibly lucky to have captured this 1950s beauty before it became a high-tech fortress.
Note to readers: Urban exploring can be dangerous and carries legal risks. We always practice “leave no trace” and respect the properties we visit.
